Cruise Control

Episode Summary

Before the apps, there was a look. A signal. An unspoken invitation. And a whole lot of queer history hiding in plain sight. On Episode 6 of Psychosexual, Brian Kennedy, LPC, and Jada Pinkett Fox welcome DR Mann Hansen, founder of CineWilde, Texas’s only LGBTQ film series dedicated to education, entertainment, and engagement, and co-owner of Common Ground Games, named the North Texas Chamber’s LGBTQ Business of the Year. Together, we cruise through the history, psychology, and cultural significance of cruising, from its roots as a way for queer people to find one another when the world told them not to, to its role as an act of protest, connection, and sexual freedom. We explore how cruising can honor the lives lost to HIV/AIDS, create opportunities for personal growth, and challenge the unconscious biases we carry about desire, sex, and the people who explore them differently. And, of course, we get practical. We unpack the art of cruising, share tips and tricks, talk consent and safety, and ask why something that can feel thrilling and liberating can also stir up shame, fear, or judgment. Because cruising isn't just about finding someone who catches your eye. Sometimes, it's about reclaiming space, connecting with queer history, and discovering something about yourself you didn't know was there. Eye contact is a love language. Just make sure you're fluent in consent.
